On September 23, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Iceland He Rulong wrote an article titled "China Is A Big Market For The World" in Iceland's leading newspaper Morgunblaðið. The article introduced China's continuous efforts to enhance its opening-up and encouraged Icelandic businesses to seize the opportunities to grow business in China.

The article noted that China has been the World's second largest importer 17 years in a row and is the primary export destination for nearly 80 countries. China is also the only country to have hosted an annual international exposition featuring import, providing a platform for Icelandic seafood, alcohol, cosmetics, health and woolen products to enter the Chinese market. With the arrival of the direct flights starting from October 26, there is a huge potential for Iceland to increase trade with China.

The article emphasized that the Chinese Government has never pursued a policy of seeking surplus in trade. China's competitiveness is simply the result of its economy of scale, high productivity and innovation. The EU has long maintained a surplus of trade in service over China. Instead of threatening counter measures against China, EU should think of constructive ways to work with China and have technological cooperation with China, with a view to achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.
