On June 26, Chinese Ambassador to Iceland He Rulong visited Múlaþing in eastern Iceland, where he met with Jónína Brynjólfsdóttir, Chairwoman of the Municipal Council of Múlaþing.

Ambassador He recalled his visit to the municipality two years ago and noted that exchanges between localities are an important part of China–Iceland relations. He said that Múlaþing, the largest administrative municipality in eastern Iceland, has a solid foundation for cooperation with China in areas such as tourism and seafood exports. The Chinese Embassy is willing to strengthen communication with the municipality and, taking the upcoming launch of direct flights between China and Iceland as an opportunity, further explore the potential for bilateral cooperation and advance exchanges between localities of China and Iceland.

Chairwoman Brynjólfsdóttir welcomed Ambassador He's visit and fondly recalled her study experience in China. She noted that eastern Iceland is not yet served by international flights, offering considerable untapped potential for future development. She expressed hope that the upcoming direct flight between Iceland and China will bring more visitors to the region and facilitate seafood exports to China from local businesses.
