On April 29, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Iceland He Rulong wrote an article titled “An Afternoon by the Fireplace with Presidents” in Iceland's leading newspaper Morgunblaðið. In the article, Ambassador He shared his takeaways from attending the fireside chat between President Halla Tómasdóttir of Iceland and President Nataša Pirc Musar of Slovenia, and introduced the four point proposal put forward by President Xi Jinping for promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.

The article noted that it was emphasized in the fireside chat that of the dozens of wars raging around the world today, not a single one was initiated by a female leader. It testifies to the special significance of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing last October.

The article pointed out that China consistently advocates resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means. In response to the current situation in the Middle East, President Xi Jinping has put forward a four-point proposal, namely staying committed to the principle of peaceful coexistence, the principle of national sovereignty, the principle of international rule of law, and a balanced approach to development and security. It is China's foreign policy that all countries, big or small, are equals of the international community. China is always ready to grow relations with small nations and listen to their voices, with a view to jointly building a community with a shared future for humanity.
