Chinese Embassy in Iceland Held Conference on Gender Equality and Associated Events

The Chinese Embassy in Iceland, in collaboration with the UN Women Iceland, co-organized a Conference on Gender Equality and associated events to pave the way for the upcoming Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women to be held in China soon. The event gathered nearly 300 participants, including H.E. Þorbjörg Sigríður Gunnlaugsdóttir, Minister of Justice of Iceland as well as guests and friends from communities across the society.



In the opening remarks, Ambassador He Rulong said that over the 30 years since the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China has actively implemented the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, leading to significant progresses in women’s development. Since entering the new era, President Xi Jinping has charted the course, set the direction, and defined the principles, pushing forward the women’s cause in China to achieve historic achievements.  



The Minister of Justice shared Iceland’s accomplishments and challenges in gender equality, calling on countries to strengthen cooperation and take actions to enhance women’s rights. She expressed hope that the Global Summit on Women would play an important role in this regard.  

The conference also featured a panel discussion. Following the conference, guests attended a photo exhibition showcasing the all-round development of women’s cause in China, to be followed by a reception and a tasting event of Sichuan cuisines and intangible cultural heritage.
