Ambassador He Rulong visited the headquarters of Iceland's leading newspaper Morgunblaðið on September 11, and had a friendly exchange with Editor Haraldur Johannessen, Deputy Editor Karl Blöndal and News Editor Matthías Johannessen. Counsellor Yang Jing of the Embassy also joined the visit.

Ambassador He Rulong said that, as Iceland's largest print media outlet, Morgunblaðið serves as an important window through which the Icelandic public learns about the wider world. This year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Iceland, and direct flights between the two countries are soon to be launched. The Chinese side stands ready to take this opportunity to strengthen exchanges with Morgunblaðið and other Icelandic media outlets, with a view to helping the Icelandic public better understand China and further strengthen China-Iceland friendship.

Editor Johannessen and his colleagues welcomed Ambassador He and his team, saying that China's economic growth, scientific advances and cultural conservation have been impressive. Iceland and China enjoy complementary strengths in many areas, and the launch of direct flight between the two countries will further facilitate bilateral trade and people-to-people exchanges. Morgunblaðið is willing to strengthen communication with the Chinese side, so as to increase mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries and the two peoples.
