Chinese Ambassador to Iceland Jin Zhijian Meets with Director General of Iceland National Energy Authority Mr. Guðni A. Jóhannesson

On October 15, Ambassador Jin Zhijian visited National Energy Authority (NEA) of Iceland and had a friendly conversation with Director General Mr. Guðni A. Jóhannesson.

Ambassador Jin spoke highly of the good cooperation between China and Iceland in the exploitation and application of geothermal energy, and expressed his appreciation and gratitude to NEA and Mr. Jóhannesson himself for the great contribution to the cooperation. Ambassador Jin had a deep discussion with Mr. Jóhannesson on how to further expand the bilateral cooperation, in particular on issues such as how to effectively combine Iceland’s geothermal related technology and experience with China’s geothermal resource nature, huge market demand and other energy industries’ development and so on.

Mr. Jóhannesson welcomed Ambassador Jin's visit, and briefed him on the latest development and future consideration on the geothermal energy cooperation between China and Iceland. He also accompanied Ambassador Jin to visit the United Nations University Geothermal Training Program (UNU-GTP) in NEA.

As a government agency under the Ministry of Industries and Innovation of Iceland, NEA’s main responsibilities are to advise the Government of Iceland on energy issues and related topics, license and monitor the development and exploitation of energy and mineral resources, regulate the operation of the electrical transmission and distribution system and promote energy research and implementation of relative policies.
