Chinese Ambassador to Iceland Jin Zhijian Attends the Signing Ceremony of China-Iceland Cooperation Project

On September 27, Ambassador Jin Zhijian, together with Icelandic Foreign Minister Guðlaugur Thór Thórdarson and Icelandic Ambassador to China Thorir Ibsen, attended the online & offline signing ceremony of the cooperation contract between Jiangsu Sierbang Petrochemical Company (hereinafter called Sierbang) and Carbon Cycling International (CRI). They also delivered speeches respectively at the ceremony.

In his speech, Ambassador Jin sent his congratulations on the signing of the cooperation project between the two sides. He emphasized that the project signed today would be a new breakthrough in cooperation between China and Iceland in the field of carbon recycling technology. It is conducive to the deepening of cooperation between the two countries in the field of sustainable development and environmental protection. It also highly accords with China's concept and practice of building a "beautiful China".The development and utilization of green energy is the focus and highlight of the cooperation between China and Iceland, bringing tangible benefits to the two countries and two peoples. December 8 this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Iceland. The bilateral cooperation is facing new opportunities. China's rapid development also brings new opportunities for deepening bilateral cooperation. China is willing to further strengthen friendly cooperation with Iceland in the field of carbon cycling technology utilization. Hopefully, we can witness more cooperation projects to come, achieve the goal of complementing each other and win-win cooperation, and provide new impetus for the development of friendly relations between China and Iceland.

The Foreign Minister of Iceland and other guests all spoke positively of the cooperation project and looked forward to greater development of China-Iceland relations. More than 60 guests from project partners and related representatives attended the event in Beijing and Reykjavik respectively.

This cooperation project is located in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, with a total planned investment of 224 million RMB. It is planned to build a new green methanol apparatus with an annual output of 100,000 tons. Hydrogen and carbon dioxide collected from the waste gas of the Silbang industrial plant will be reused as raw material and converted into methanol by introducing CRI's unique ETL technology. When the projetc is completed, it is expected that 150,000 tons of carbon dioxide will be absorbed annually, with 100,000 tons of green low-carbon methanol produced .
