Chinese Ambassador to Iceland Jin Zhijian Meets with Mayor of Akureyri Ásthildur Sturludóttir

On October 25, Ambassador Jin Zhijian met with Mme. Ásthildur Sturludóttir, Mayor of Akureyri. The two sides exchanged views on the exchanges and cooperation between Akureyri and Shanghai Pudong New Area as well as other places of China. Mr. Guðmundur Baldvin Guðmundsson, Chairman of the City Council and Mr. Andri Teitsson, Councilor of the City Council attended the meeting.

Ambassador Jin introduced the latest developments on practical cooperation between China and Iceland, pointing out that Regional cooperation plays an important role in the friendship and cooperation between the two countries. As the largest city in north Iceland, Akureyri has unique advantages in tourism, fisheries, energy and Arctic affairs, and the two sides enjoy broad prospects for future cooperation.

Mayor Sturludóttir appreciated Ambassador Jin’s words and was glad to see the good momentum of development in bilateral relationship. She stressed that Akureyri was willing to cooperate with Shanghai Pudong New Area and other relevant parties in China in the fields of tourism, trade, culture, education and the Arctic.
