Groundless Accusations Are Not Conducive to China-Iceland friendly cooperation

Remarks by the Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Iceland in response to the accusations of China by the Icelandic National Police Commission at the Security and Defense Conference.

The Chinese Embassy in Iceland has taken note that the Icelandic National Police Commission had accused and slandered China of "engaging in espionage activities in Iceland and Europe" and "collecting data" at the Security and Defense Conference today. We were taken aback by it, dissatisfied with it and resolutely opposed to it.

China had worked with Iceland to overcome the challenges brought by the 2008 international financial crisis to Iceland. Under the current turbulent international situation, China is firmly committed to growing friendship with Iceland and is willing to work with Iceland in deepening friendly cooperation in all the fields, with a view to jointly injecting stability and certainty into the world.

We urge relevant institution to put down its arrogance and prejudice and refrain from making groundless accusations and spreading rumors. It is also urged to proceed from the overall situation of China-Iceland relations, uphold an independent, objective and fair attitude, and do more things that are conducive to the healthy development of bilateral relations, rather than the opposite.
