The Embassy of China in Iceland Hosts "Warm Welcome to the Spring" Chinese New Year Celebration Dinner with Icelandic-Chinese Trade Council(ÍKV) and Icelandic Chinese Cultural Society (KÍM)

On February 2, the Embassy of China in Iceland hosted  "Warm Welcome to the Spring" Chinese New Year Celebration Dinner for the Year of the Rabbit with Icelandic-Chinese Trade Council(ÍKV) and Icelandic Chinese Cultural Society (KÍM). Ambassador He Rulong and Madam Shen Ting attended the event and delivered a keynote speech.

Ambassador He spoke highly of the important contributions made by ÍKV and KÍM to the development of China-Iceland relations, and sent New Year wishes to all the guests. Ambassador He said the year 2022 is very extraordinary.  It's a year that China, putting the people front and center, had taken science-based and effective measures to reign in the epidemic, and tried its utmost to protect people's lives and ensure people's health. It's a year that China had hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing. It's a year that China had achieved fresh achievements in various fields such as economic development, science and technology, as well as environmental protection despite of numerous challenges. It's a year that China had contributed to the tackling of global challenges together with the rest of the international society. It's a year that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China had been successfully convened, starting a new journey of Chinese path to modernization and elevating China's development to a new historical starting point.

Ambassador He briefed the guests on the latest socio-economic development of China, pointing out that, in the recent years, China-Iceland relations have maintained sound and sustained development, both countries are deepening economic and trade cooperation, and the bilateral trade volume has been growing steadily.

Ambassador He also showcased the guests the fruitful results of the fifth CIIE, introduced Iceland's participation in the fifth CIIE and the deals reached during the CIIE, encouraging Icelandic entrepreneurs to actively sign up for the sixth CIIE and witness the great opportunities of the Chinese grand market.

ÍKV Chairman Jónína Bjartmarz and KÍM Chairman Þorkell Ólafur Árnason expressed their gratitude to the Embassy for its strong support to ÍKV and KÍM over the years. They are willing to further strengthen cooperation with the Embassy with a view to remaining committed to the China-Iceland cooperation and people-to-people friendship.

The event was attended by about 50 people including ÍKV and KÍM board members, members and their spouses. The guests tasted Chinese delicacies in a warm and friendly atmosphere and recalled with fond memories their strong bond with China, wishing the Chinese people a Happy New Year.
