On December 17, the Chinese Embassy in Iceland held a photo exhibition on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Iceland at Reykjavík City Hall. Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, the newly-appointed Icelandic Foreign Minister, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, former President of Iceland and the Chairman of the Arctic Circle, and other dignitaries attended the photo exhibition.

Counsellor Yang Wen, Chargé d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Iceland, introduced more than 50 photos displayed at the venue. The guests enjoyed pictures recording precious historical moments in political, economic and cultural cooperation between China and Iceland over the past 50 years. They believed the golden jubilee marks a new starting point for the two countries, and wished the bilateral cooperation in various sectors would further benefit the two countries and peoples in the future. They also wished the Beijing Winter Olympics a complete success.

About 150 guests attended the photo exhibition, including Icelandic friends from Alþingi (the Icelandic Parliament), the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Icelandic-Chinese Cultural Society, the Iceland-China Trade Council, the Olympic Committee of Iceland, representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Reykjavík, overseas Chinese and Chinese students in Iceland.
